Hispanic Heritage Night in Tucson

Tucson Botanical Gardens Twilight Thursdays series celebrates Hispanic Heritage Night

The Tucson Botanical Gardens Twilight Thursdays series celebrates Hispanic Heritage Night with fiery performances by Ballet Folklorico San Juan and Mexican folk singer Jesus Garcia, tours of the Barrio Garden and Folklorico dance instruction this Thursday, August 13, 2009 from 5 – 9 pm on the grounds of the 5-acre desert urban oasis located at 2150 North Alvernon Way.

Gates open at 5 pm; the Barrio Garden Tour starts at 6 pm; Ballet Folklorico San Juan performs at 6:30 pm followed by dance instruction at 7 pm and Jesus Garcia entertains from 7:30 pm. Admission is $7 for adults/$3.50 member adults; $3 for children/$1.50 for member children and discounted Family and Friends passes are available for purchase. The Gardens Café featuring Café 54 will sell delicious themed buffet dinner or attendees can bring a picnic meal to enjoy in the Gardens. Tickets for the buffet are available in the Gift Shop.

Founded in 1987 in Tucson by Julie Gonzalez Gallego, Ballet Folklorico San Juan is an international touring Mexican folklorico dance group composed of over 150 dancers from ages 4-18 and has a repertory that ranges from Aztec rituals to the traditional Mexican hat dance. This popular group has performed across the southwest USA and in Mexico. The Tucson Botanical Gardens, designated by Reader’s Digest as America’s Best Secret Garden is a private, non-profit organization that promotes responsible and appropriate use of plants and water in a desert environment through education and demonstration as well as provides a place of beauty and tranquility for Tucson residents and visitors.
